This book offers assistance to pastors, musicians, and other worship planners in selecting hymns for worship services using The United Methodist Hymnal.This book is divided into two sections: The Scriptural Index lists hymns, prayers, canticles, poems, and other hymnal resources that relate to various biblical passages. All passages in both the Common Lectionary and the Revised Common Lectionary are included. Additional preaching texts appearing in neither of these lectionaries have been added for the benefit of preachers who do not use lectionaries. The Seasonal Index lists hymns and other worship resource suggestions for use on various days and seasons of the Christian year. Suggestions are included for special days designated by General Conference, many civic holidays, and other special events that occur regularly in the life of the local church. Robert D. Ingram is a retired United Methodist pastor with 40 years of experience in planning and leading worship. His formal training includes a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University, 2 master's degrees and a doctoral degree from The Methodist Theological School in Ohio. He has 4 other published books that provide worship resources for pastors, and 2 children's picture books that had their beginning in worship services.
